newmediachoice Helps Client to Open New Doors

In collaboration with newmediachoice, Doors and More has been able to utilise the Internet to increase their turnover by 400% in just 6 months.

Doors and More began selling their range of internal and external doors in July 2004 to customers within the Lincolnshire area via an eBay store. In 2006, however, the Company commissioned newmediachoice, to develop and market their own e-commerce website. The website allows Internet users to browse online and purchase doors, flooring, skirting, architraves, door linings and frames.

Nick Watson, Managing Director of Doors and More, explained "The website has been the best investment we have made. The website, which was partially funded by Business Link Lincolnshire and Rutland, was a large investment at the time. However, since launch in November, it has been directly responsible for in excess of a quarter of a million pounds worth of sales. Previously, we were reliant upon word of mouth referrals and expensive targeted marketing campaigns to generate sales. The launch of the website has provided a totally new dimension to the business because we are now selling to customers throughout the UK".

Doors and More recognised that their Internet presence needed to reflect the professional standard of service offered to their customers. Nick advised "Our average value per order is in the region of £1,500. We understood, therefore, that visitors to the website would need to have confidence in the Doors and More brand in order to buy. For this reason, we chose a design and marketing agency with the expertise to guide us through the process. newmediachoice were very helpful in providing advice on the best layout for the website in terms of design and usability. They successfully delivered a professional looking website that is easy to use and which has exceeded our expectations".

Initially, Doors and More decided to undertake marketing of the website themselves with some success. However, sales have really taken off since Doors and More commissioned newmediachoice to implement an online marketing strategy on their behalf. "Retailers can really underestimate the importance of online marketing". Nick explained "The Internet is a competitive arena and customers will not find you unless a concerted and expert effort is made to promote your website".

Since April, newmediachoice has implemented a combined online marketing strategy to promote the website which has resulted in more then doubling online sales in just one month. Doors and More are currently running a special promotion on their Vufold Folding Sliding Oak Door System and this has been the focus of the campaign. Nick advised "The online marketing has had a significant effect on our bottom line. Previous to the start of the campaign, we sold 6 Vufold doors in 4 months. Since commencement of the online marketing 3 weeks ago, we have sold 20 doors at a value of £3,000 per door and we have a further 20 enquiries that are currently being dealt with".

The increase in demand has necessitated the move of Doors and More's headquarters to larger premises at Haven Business Park in Boston, where customers can visit the showroom and browse Doors and More range of doors and accessories. The showroom is open 8.00am – 5.00pm Mon to Fri and Saturday 9.00am – 1.00pm, and a member of the Doors and More team is always on hand to answer any queries customers have and to offer general advice regarding which door style would suit a particular house. Advice is also available regarding the best way to finish a door and which door furniture would be most suitable.

Nick concluded "We are absolutely delighted with the work that newmediachoice has undertaken for us and the positive effect the website has had on our business. My advice to any retailer considering an online presence would be to ensure that you choose a professional web developer to produce your website and to utilise their skills in promoting it".
